| Tauten... "tighten" in english. For the purposes of tender as a rode. I remember this video interview of Jacques Brel, by the chimney fireside. He said "the life ... it's to be high". As a teenager, I looked this interview many times... I wanted this album post April 2007 to be tight all titles long. No way out. Maintaining the tension, being on the tightrope of Brel. |
.What are the songs about?
| 1 - Aftermass : Aftermass A song in full revolt. Heard on the radio, somebody speaking about the social struggles "Does sweat have a weight ? A price ?" It made me thinking of a song that would echo Rage Against The Machine, to The Clash... with a chorus that we could all take up together. I wanted that chorus to be meaningful "there’s a crowd screaming inside me, how much sweat do we have to pay?" We recorded the album surrounded by vinyls... there was Aftermath of The Rolling Stones... I made a pun on Aftermath and Mass for this mess, which was the title of my first album Mute with also very committed lyrics. |  |
| 2 -N102 : I wanted to try making a song with a bit of singing. N102, of the name of the national passing near the place where we recorded was this one. A musician friend (Scalde) shows me how his Dulcimer works, I decide to try to tune my guitar in the same way and compose... N102. The rhythm section behind is an inventive technical prowess of Bob X who has sampled a camera. Today, on stage, Bichon on drums succeed on recreating this rhythm. |

: Suspension. Song with lyrics echoing Dominique A or Brigitte Giraud or both... Everything will be as before. Nothing will be as before, because everything will be as before. A love song about fear of loss. I wanted this song to be short, frustrating. And tuned in, it is. It is for me to play. Frustrating as the lack of time. Nothing has been like before. After. |

| 4 - Fantasy and dragonfly : One of the first songs made for the album. Desires of large sounds. To rediscover loved bands as Interpol, Kings of Leon, Sonic Youth .... A love song. Placed voluntarily after Respite. About the beginning of love. When one sees the beloved at all street corners. The beginning of an obsession. With a sentence that i always love to sing « how come you’re in Spain, while you’re in my vein ». |

| 5 -Peacemaker : As originally written for the play of Vincent Roumagnac, Kostia, adaptation of Chekhov's The Seagull. The words are reference to the state of Nina.I declined this song live on stage in different ways for the play, until wearing down. It is sometimes hard to settle : I do not know if the song will be slow, fast, with effect... This theatrical experience helped me to get through this desire: to play a song all the way possible. Without choosing. Without fear of missing itself. Fix it on a recording was then logically difficult. |

| 6 - Raus : Song about excesses. About the night. When there is no longer a limit. When the reality is far away. When we don't want to stop anymore, when we don't want to go home anymore, when we don't want it to stop. Crystalline track. Strangely, I always see it blue. Little answer to the Smiths : "And if you’re falling on the floor, will you really drink more?" |

| 7 -Polder : Track written the day after April 7th, 2007. In one stroke. A reaction. I read this definition of a polder "gain ground on unrest areas". Polder it will be. Initially, I wanted it in two parts Anger /Rebellion separated in two tracks, but connected, anger and rebellion are finally mixed. The beginning is a tribute to Working Class Hero, to the supporter of Cohen, the rest to the supporter of Electrelane. I love singing those lyrics so much. The drums of Frank Laurino sculpt the track in its second part so masterfully. |

| 8 - Brain in brine : Dark lyrics. All started from the words. Without illusion. From the difficulty to find your place. From the illusion that you give, that you give to yourself. To forget essential. I wanted everything to be cold. Music. Lyrics. A white blade. "Time works for us, so lazy we are." |

"Nine Inch nailsist" track of the album. Maybe a little apart. Wink to a Jomi Massage's song. |

| 10- Undergo : Track written after reading about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Undergo, endure. It didn't happen. "We saw nothing, felt nothing." A song about American amnesia, "a lie in the sky," a lie in the sky. And about amnesia usually after genocide. Songs of the end (false or not) - "they won't take our / your memories" They won't remove our / your memory - just give a human face. A proximity. I initially had the idea of a crowd, a glimpse of "Fearless" of Pink Floyd from Meddle. I like this idea that at the end of the song, we don't remember how it began. |  |
| 11- Berlin : Berlin is for me the best song I've ever written. It works alone. Without me. Lyrics to music, it is full. A wall, borders that we don't always see, where they really are. Memory trade. Ideas. Pialat's movie "Under the sun of Satan" The label "lives and works in Berlin. The music. 4/4 time. "Who’s gonna break the line ?" |
